The Partners

The project proposal for this research project was envisioned in conversations between Rusa Jeremic, Staff at Centre for Connected Communities (Openly Connected – now Catalysts’ Circle) and representatives from the Local Champions Network (LCN) a network of grassroots leaders across Toronto’s Priority Neighbourhoods (now Neighbourhood Improvement Areas). The LCN play an important role in Toronto raising the voice and priorities of neighbourhoods that are often overlooked.

In developing the project, we committed to an authentic Community Based Research Model (CBR) that would open doors for community members to participate in all aspects of the research project from beginning to completion.

Halfway through the project we were joined by representatives from the Toronto Neighbourhood Centres (TNC), an association of non-profit organizations dedicated to strengthening local neighbourhoods.

This project was made possible through the financial support of NSERC (Community Colleges Social Innovation Fund) and SSHRC. The project was housed at George Brown Polytechnic (GBP) and received Ethics Approval from the GBP Research Ethics Committee. GBP REB File #:252-2223
